BUTLER IN THE HEY!

With social commentary, wit and humour at their core, BITH! is the Sunshine Coast’s eminent dance party band cranking out high energy ska bangers, reggae jams, deep dub and percussive breaks. Presenting tightly structure songs laced with breaks and jams that allow the band to breathe into high energy dance driven music, the band builds a dynamic show from beginning to end.

High octane front man and guitar slave Michael Lacoste sings of alien ancestry, earth wisdom and corporate whoredom. Grant Olsen holds down keys, trombone, harmonica and sings of deep thinky things. Barry Taylor is crisp and churning on the drums and screams like a banshee! Kent Alstad brings a solid warmth and groove and adds energy, wit and a “Be kind to nerds” t shirt.

Barry. Grant. Kent. Michael. You. Me. Earth. The Universe. Whatever.

DIRTY MOUNTAIN

Hailing from Victoria BC, Dirty Mountain's sound is heavily infused with harmony-driven melodies and timeless storytelling. Dirty Mountain is a roots-rock band with underlying blends of country and blues to support the sassy and often gritty messages portrayed in the lyrics. Elli Hart is the relentless force behind Dirty Mountain. Keeping her in line and providing the strong prowess that runs through the music are Gord Light on bass, and Tom Salter on drums.

“ […] Elli Hart’s soulful voice is almost rivaled by her presence on stage. Ever-energetic and clearly not afraid to shred some solos on her guitar.” - Tyson Elder, Rocktographers.ca

“Strong songwriting with an alt-country-blues rock style.” - Adam Lee, VictoriaMusicScene.com

DEVIL IN THE WOOD SHACK

Devil In The Wood Shack, based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, is a six-piece, indie-folk band with unapologetic honesty, more guts than glory and more intrigue than a well told story. Raw and untamed; a hurricane that hates the rain; a sound straight from hell riding on drunken angel wings. With western, gypsy, punk and blues influences and members from opposite ends of the country, we come together to make a sound like no other.

The band originally formed in 2011 as a three-piece with Joshua Wood on lead vocals and guitar, Wesley Coderre on guitar, mouth harp and vocals, and Rory Troughton on drums/percussion. In 2012, the band added sisters Thalia Apostolopolous on banjo and vocals and Justine Apostolopolous on keys and cello, along with Conrad Shynkar on stand-up bass.

Devil in the Wood Shack has since emerged as one of Vancouver’s indie-folk pioneers. But for them, it’s all about doing what they’ve always done–writing pop songs for weirdos, anthems for the lost and lonely, and bare-knuckle ballads for the underdogs.

DOUG KOYAMA

Doug Koyama is a singer and performer currently based in the central interior region of British Columbia. A shift in 2009 lead to a strong desire to travel and perform as his prime mode of existence. In the winter you may find Doug working in a dish-pit, as a school photographer or, more recently as a private chef.

Summers are full of music festivals all across BC. His open-hearted sharing of everything he is and has keeps Koyama in good standing on the festival circuit and a perennial favourite at many of the festivals he performs at. Each springs’ musical adventure has started a little earlier for the past few years (the end of March in 2017), leading to a transition to a life of full-time music, which is his goal.

Doug performs Improvised a cappella with a loop pedal, a style popularized by American musician / comedian Reggie Watts. The loop pedal allows the layering of sounds, vocal percussion, and melodic and harmonic phrases. By controlling these elements, as well as live vocals, he builds songs out of his imagination.

Each song is unique and inspiring with just enough room for your imagination to blossom into whimsical and romantic dreamscapes in your mind.

SCENIC ROUTE TO ALASKA

Substance and accessibility are often considered opposing forces when it comes to pop music, making it all the more impressive when a band like Scenic Route to Alaska so effortlessly delivers ample doses of both.

The easygoing Edmonton-based trio, comprised of Trevor Mann on lead vocals and guitar, drummer Shea Connor, and bassist Murray Wood, effortlessly weaves catchy vocals and memorable melodies through rich arrangements – instantly engaging but begging to be heard again and again. It’s a coveted combination within the crowded sphere of indie rock – and one that’s rarely the product of anything but time, talent, and heaps of hard work. Of course, Scenic Route to Alaska are no strangers to any of those.
